The Federal Bar Council

The Federal Bar Council of South Africa was established in 2010 with three member bar associations, namely the Gauteng Association of Advocates, the North Gauteng Association of Advocates and the Church Square Bar on a one bar, one vote principle.

The function of the Federal Bar Council is to promote matters of mutual interest without involving itself in matters internal to a member bar.

The Federal Bar Council also serves as a Silk Committee for member bars.At present the Federal Bar Council represents 150 advocates nation wide.

The presidents of the three members bars are ex officio members of the Federal Bar Council and each my nominate a second member from his/her bar respectively.

Chairmanship of the Federal Bar Council rotate between the three chairs annually
